Announcing VCDC Art Contest “Vision: Through My Eyes”

The Vision & Conceptual Development Center is excited to announce our first art contest! We just revamped our office and would love to have your art decorate our reception area. Create a piece of art expressing your interpretation of our theme “Vision: Through My Eyes”.

Eligibility

All ages

Resident of DC, Maryland, or Virginia


First stage: all artwork submitted digitally

Second stage: finalists will submit original work



Media and technique requirements

Some examples of two-dimensional media or techniques that could be used:

  • Paint (watercolor, tempera, poster, acrylic, etc.)

  • Drawings (colored pencils, colored chalk and pastels)

  • Collages (cut-and-glued materials such as tissue paper, colored paper and wrapping paper)

  • Photography

  • Digital Illustration

Artwork may be realistic or abstract.

No frames or mat boards are allowed.


Size and Orientation Requirements

Art must be in portrait orientation.

Art submitted by artists ages 14 & under must be no larger than 8 ½” x 11” in size.

Art submitted by artists ages 15+ must be 24” x 36” in size.

Judging and Winners

A panel of judges will review all submissions based on the following criteria:

-Interpretation of the theme

-Technical Skill

-Creativity


Submissions may be posted on our website and social media accounts.

The winners will be posted on our website and social media accounts and will be notified via email and/or phone.


Each winner will receive a cash prize.

Copyright law

Contest entrants will retain copyright to all submitted art. All art submitted must be your own original concept and not a copy of another artist’s copyrighted material. In submitting to the contest, you grant the Vision and Conceptual Development Center permission to display your art on/in our office, website, exhibits, display images and any promotional materials.

Submission guidelines

-There is no limit to the number of entries that artists may submit.

-A digital copy of your artwork must be submitted via email. If you are selected as a winner, we will provide instructions for you to submit your physical artwork. Please know that your physical artwork will not be returned to you.

-Each artist should submit a short bio, up to 280 characters, that will be on display with your art should you win.

- Each artist should submit an artist statement, up to 280 characters, that will help the jurors interpret your art.

- Each artist should submit information about the type of media used to create your artwork.


With your submission, please indicate whether you want to be identified by full name or initials as desired.
